A gift certificate is a small piece of brand design that happens to carry a value and a code. The layout is fixed and worth getting right; the value, names, message, code and expiry differ on every one. Google Slides is the natural home for it, because the card holds its design and each gift order produces a copy with the right details on it.

The safe pattern is that the shop or booking system owns the code, the value and the expiry, and the certificate prints them. Nothing is minted in the template, so there is never a certificate in circulation your records do not know about. These are branded documents rather than verifiable credentials — no verification page, no redemption tracking, no recipient analytics — so redemption stays in the system that sold the voucher. Keep personal messages short: a slide does not reflow, and a two-line message field is easier to design around than an open text box.

Common questions, answered

Does the certificate track redemption? +
No. This produces a branded certificate document — a slide and a print-ready PDF — not a verifiable or trackable credential. There is no verification page, no Open Badges and no analytics on who opened it. Redemption is tracked wherever you already record it, and the code on the certificate is the code from that record.
Where do codes and expiry dates come from? +
From your data. The template prints the code, value and valid-until date held on the gift order in Airtable, Sheets, a database, a CSV or your shop's API. It does not generate codes, which keeps one place that knows which certificates exist and what they are worth.
Can I use my own gift certificate design? +
Yes. Build the master in Google Slides at your card size, with your brand, foil area and terms block, mark the value, names, message, code and expiry as placeholders, and generate against that instead of this layout. Slides takes a custom page size, so the card can match your printed stock exactly.
Can I issue certificates as the orders come in? +
Yes. Filter to orders not yet issued and run, either on a schedule or triggered from your order system through the REST API or an n8n, Make or Zapier flow on the Pro plan. Each matching order produces one certificate ready to print or attach.
