A packing slip is the document that goes inside the box. It exists so that whoever opens the carton can check the contents against what was meant to be in it, which is why it carries SKUs and quantities but no prices at all. The list length changes with every order, so the table has to grow and pages break themselves — a Google Doc rather than a fixed layout.

Split packed lines from back orders

The most common complaint about a shipment is not a wrong item but a missing one, and a slip that only lists what is in the box makes a partial delivery look like an error. Shape the data so each order line carries a packed quantity alongside the ordered quantity, then drive two repeating blocks from it: one for what is enclosed, one for what is still to follow. The recipient sees the whole picture, and your support inbox stays quieter.

Common questions, answered

Why does a packing slip leave prices off? +
Because it travels inside the box and is often opened by a warehouse or a third party rather than the person who bought the goods. Its job is to let someone verify contents against quantities, so it carries SKUs and counts. Money stays on the invoice, which goes to the buyer separately.
Can it show items that were not shipped? +
Yes, and it should. Split the order lines into what was packed and what is on back order and the template repeats each group into its own table. The recipient can then see at a glance that a short delivery is intentional rather than a mistake.
Can I print a day's slips in one go? +
Yes. Filter the shipments table to today's dispatches and one run produces a slip per shipment, each listing only its own lines and quantities. Most warehouses schedule the run for early morning so the slips are already waiting when picking starts, and anything dispatched later in the day is picked up by the next run.
Can I use my own packing slip design? +
Yes. Most warehouses have a layout their packers already scan quickly, and changing it costs real time on the floor. Rebuild that document in Google Docs exactly as it is today, mark the ship-to block, references and the item table as placeholders, and generate against your own version instead of this one.
